APPROACHING THE COMPUTER.....

WITH FORESIGHT

1. Choose a company who is experienced with your field as well as computers. They will know the potential pitfalls and help you avoid them. The more you think you will count on the system, the more important it is to consider the quality of the service. The best equipment can "go down", so be certain they can help! Be sure they can arrange any custom programming for your special requirements. Decide which of the following they can assist with, and who will fill in any gaps.

2. Analyze your business requirements and find out how a computer might benefit your productivity and quality. Develop a written list of goals and prioritize those requirements within your operation.

3. Look for and identify future applications you might want to implement. Solicit ideas and questions from key (or all) employees on their specific department needs.

4. Watch your potential software in action at work and get written specifications for any new software. Compare the flow of information your existing system to the software.

5. Pinpoint the equipment options that could satisfy your requirements for now and their ease and cost of expansion in the future.

6. Decide which equipment and programs will be most cost effective in both the long and short-term.

7. Make a management commitment to fully support and implement the system in those areas you have decided to automate.

8. Purchase and install the system. Train personnel in effective use of the computer. You can learn what you need to know.

9. Re-evaluate periodically the utility of the system and changing needs of your business. Make changes to take advantage of new opportunities.

Following these guidelines allows you to make full use of the abilities of today's computers. In order to achieve these goals, the programs (software) must usually either be very sophisticated or must be customized for each application. The Meat Handlerâ system combines both the sophistication and the capabilities, to give you software that fits your needs and remains economical.
